Hi Mama, my name is Phoebe, I’m a first-time mama of my beautiful little boy named Alfie and our feeding journey has been the inspiration behind me Founding Amor Mama and creating the Cowrie 7 in 1 cover. 

This photograph of 9-day-old Alfie and I was taken on our first outing. We went to the shops and Sushi Train IFYKYK! I remember this day so clearly. It felt like such a huge step going out in public and trying to feed my new baby in new and different environments whilst still learning the skill of breastfeeding.

My boobs were engorged with a bit of an oversupply so were very leaky. I had a button-down dress on which was great for boob access but wasn't very discreet (hence the makeshift muslin cover that kept falling down). 

Having not been in the habit of getting my boobs out in public pre-baby, I’ll admit I found it a bit overwhelming and awkward. Worse still, since I was so distracted by the muslin constantly slipping down I didn’t realise Alfie didn't have a great latch so I ended up with milk completely soaking the front of my dress… and we still had to do the groceries, good times!

After this experience, I went looking for something more practical to use while feeding during our outings. I didn’t want feeling awkward and stressed about breastfeeding while we were out to become a barrier to leaving the house and therefore becoming even more isolated as a new mum. 

When I went looking I found hot stretchy covers, knitted covers made from synthetic materials (not an option when living in the tropics!). And of course, the apron-style covers that looked like they belonged in a black-and-white movie. 

It dawned on me that I needed to create a breastfeeding wrap that not only suited my style pre-baby, but also was made out of organic and natural fibres for delicate baby skin and to maximise breathability. It was also vital that it be more than just a cover. As new Mama’s we tend to have nappy bags the size of carry-on luggage that are busting at the seams, so it was essential that this one item could do the job of many.

Hence the Cowrie 7 in 1 Gots Certified Organic Cotton Breastfeeding cover was born.
